Vitamin A - What the Big Deal?

Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin playing a significant role supporting various essential functions within the body including:

🥸 Vision. One of the most well-known functions is maintaining good vision. A deficiency can lead to night blindness and other vision problems.

🦠 Immune System. Its crucial for a strong immune system, helping to maintain mucous membrane integrity against pathogens and supporting the production and function of immune cells.

🧬 Vitamin A is involved in the growth and differentiation of various types of cells, essential for maintaining the health & function of organs & tissues.

❤️‍🩹 Vitamin A contributes to healthy skin by regulating cell turnover, promoting growth & repair of skin cells & regulates sebum production keeping skin moist.

🥕 Vitamin A is also important in Reproductive Health,

🫒 Cellular Communication, Bone Health & an Antioxidant.

Vitamin A Food Sources:

🐮 Animal Sources - Liver, dairy (milk, cheese, butter), eggs & fatty fish like salmon.

🥕 Plant Sources - Some colourful fruits & vegetables contain beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, including carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, butternut squash, spinach, kale, & red bell peppers.

It is important to note that excessive intake of vitamin A from supplements or high-dose sources can lead to toxicity.
