Digestive Health & How a Nutritional Therapy can Help?

Updated: Jan 26

It is thought that up to 40% of the population in the UK suffer from digestive issues of varying degrees. This is a common complaint I often see in my clinic, and often these symptoms can become the new normal for many and can cause much distress. What I would love for you to appreciate is that they maybe common, but it doesnt mean you need to live with it, there is so much we can do!

Signs of an unhappy digestive system can include:

  • Bloating

  • Reflux

  • Heartburn

  • Abdominal pain and discomfort

  • Gas and burping

  • Hiccups

  • Slow and sluggish digestion

  • Flatulence

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhoea

  • Erratic bowel action

  • Nausea

  • Food reactions, sensitivities & Intolerances

When our digestive tract is not functioning optimally this can affect our nutrient absorption having far reaching effect on other body systems and overall wellbeing. Other complaints such as hay fever, hormones, energy, headaches and immunity can be linked to our digestion. Did you also know that over 70% of our immune system is located in our gut? Therefore, it should be a priority to have our digestive system functioning in an optimal state!

The good news is I am here to help! My aim is to investigate and understand possible contributing factors and support your digestive function to help soothe, calm, and repair the digestive system. Diagnostic testing can also be beneficial in providing information to help determine the root cause. When our gut is healthy, we will feel healthier in general.

The quote "all disease begins in the gut" is attributed to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, who is considered the father of Western medicine.

He believed that the digestive system played a central role in overall health, and that many diseases could be traced back to imbalances in the gut.

Modern research has since confirmed that the gut plays a crucial role in overall health, and that imbalances in gut bacteria can lead to a wide range of health problems, including digestive issues, autoimmune disorders, and mental health conditions. digestive system is so integral to our overall health and wellbeing.

With a surface area of about the size of a tennis court - our digestive tract not only is responsible for breaking down and absorbing our nutrients as well as a vital immune barrier, protecting us from diseases & contamination.

Not only does it protect, but our gut lining accounts for 70% of our immune system!
