Peri-Menopause & Menopause. How Can a Nutritional Therapist Help?

Updated: Jan 26

Menopause is a natural and normal stage of a woman’s life. But women experience quite different journeys, from ‘sailing through’ to a ‘rollercoaster ride’ for others. Each women's journey is unique in the same way we all are.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Irregular periods

  • Hot flushes

  • Night sweats

  • Mood swings

  • Anxiety

  • Sleep issues and deprivation

  • Concentration and Memory Issues

  • Breast tenderness

  • Irritability

  • Depression

  • Fatigue

  • Low libido

  • Thinning hair

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Headaches & migraines

  • New intolerances & allergies

  • Increased sweating and body odour changes

  • Dry, itchy, or crawly skin

  • Low energy and fatigue

The list is endless!

You may not agree with this statement right now if you are experiencing menopause symptoms! However your body is actually very clever and is sending you signs and symptoms what all is not well.

Your body is telling you what it needs BUT are you listening?

Your menopause symptoms and health issues are all clues that something isn't quite right BUT with busy lives and that just ‘get on with it’ attitude many of you have forgotten how to tune into what your body really needs.

These clues give us information to how to support your body and get it into a more balanced state - for example....

as your sleep changed?

  • How is your digestion?

  • Have aches and pains developed over this time?

  • How are you dealing with stress?

  • How is your mood?

  • Has your skin, nails and hair changed?

  • How is your energy?

  • Are you experiencing brain fog?

  • Are you craving sugar or other foods?

It is time to listen, take note and take steps to help get your body get back into balance and support it through menopause.

What you may not know if that our gut health is intrinsically linked to our overall health and hormonal balance. When our gut isn't optimal hormones can often become unbalanced. There are many factors to explore such as digestive health, our nutrient absorption, our microbiome and also its important role in excreting our used hormones to name just a few! So love your gut and your hormones will love you!

My approach is to investigate the underlying issues. Nourishing our hormonal health can improve these symptoms significantly. My aim is to support, educate and return your hormones to balance and optimal function. Although not always necessary, diagnostic testing is available to help us understand your presenting picture and look at contributing factors.
